1978 • This is the film that made people believe a comic-book hero could truly come alive on screen. Christopher Reeve is marvelous, making Superman noble and inspiring while also giving Clark Kent real sweetness and charm. John Williams’s score is one of the great glories of modern movie music, and hearing it in a theater is a thrill all by itself. The visual effects won a Special Achievement Academy Award, but what really lasts is the film’s heart.
